Prices: AWS Price List, US East (N. Virginia) EC2 offer published 7 Oct 2026 (version 20261007165408); data transfer from the AWSDataTransfer offer published 16 Sep 2026. On-Demand Linux list prices in USD, before tax; your bill can differ. Assumes each disk stays provisioned all month (AWS bills disks per second), and starts the data transfer tiers at 0 GB (AWS counts them on your whole account). How we calculate it

  • Instance: hourly On-Demand price × hours per month × number of instances.
  • Disk: GB × the gp3 or gp2 price per GB-month, for each instance. AWS bills a volume per second (60-second minimum) until you release it, also while the instance is stopped; the calculator assumes each disk stays for the whole month and does not model shorter disk lifetimes.
  • gp3 IOPS and throughput: (IOPS − 3,000) × the price per IOPS-month and (MB/s − 125) × the price per MB/s-month. The Price List gives throughput per GiBps-month; AWS's EBS pricing page shows it per MB/s-month as that price ÷ 1024 (in us-east-1, $40.96 ÷ 1024 = $0.04).
  • Data transfer out to the internet: the total of all instances, priced with the region's per-GB tiers exactly as published (in us-east-1: $0.090 from 0 GB, $0.085 from 10,240 GB, $0.070 from 51,200 GB, $0.050 from 153,600 GB), after the optional 100 GB free allowance. The tiers start at 0 GB here; AWS says "Rate tiers take into account your aggregate usage for Data Transfer Out to the Internet across Amazon EC2, Amazon S3, …", so traffic from the rest of your account can move you into a cheaper tier sooner.
  • Year: the monthly total × 12.

Every price comes from the AWS Price List bulk files (Linux, shared tenancy, no pre-installed software), downloaded on 8 Oct 2026. The instance list shows current-generation types; tick the box to add previous generation ones. AWS's own disclaimer: the price list "is for informational purposes only" and "All prices are subject to the additional terms included in the pricing pages on http://aws.amazon.com".

Running WordPress on your own EC2 server vs managed hosting

This calculator prices a raw server: you set up and run the software on it yourself. If you would rather have WordPress run for you, compare managed WordPress hosting. Cloudways, for example, is a managed hosting layer that runs your site on a cloud you choose, AWS included; see our Cloudways review.

Frequently asked questions

How does the 100 GB of free data transfer work?
AWS says: "AWS customers receive 100 GB of free data transfer out to the internet free each month, aggregated across all AWS Services and Regions (except China and GovCloud)." Because it is shared by every service and region in your account, the calculator leaves it off unless you tick the box. With it on, the first 100 GB are free and the per-GB tiers apply to the rest.
What does a gp3 disk include for free?
Every gp3 volume, whatever its size, includes 3,000 IOPS and 125 MB/s of throughput in the storage price. You pay per IOPS-month above 3,000 and per MB/s-month above 125. Extra IOPS go up to 80,000 at no more than 500 IOPS per GiB of volume size, and extra throughput up to 2,000 MiB/s at no more than 0.25 MiB/s per provisioned IOPS; the calculator tells you when an entry is outside those limits.
Why does the calculator assume 730 hours a month?
730 is 24 hours × 365 days ÷ 12 months, the average month of an always-on server. AWS bills On-Demand instances per instance-hour from launch until you stop or terminate them, and partial hours of Linux instances per second, so enter fewer hours for a server that is not always on (up to 744 for a 31-day month). Each launch is billed for at least 60 seconds: the hours you enter should already include that minimum, and many very short runs are not modelled. Disks are billed per second while they exist, also when the instance is stopped; the calculator assumes each disk stays for the whole month.
Why could my AWS bill be different?
These are On-Demand Linux list prices from the AWS Price List, before tax. The calculator does not include Savings Plans, Reserved Instances or Spot, Windows or licensed software, CPU credits of T-family instances in Unlimited mode, support plans, Elastic IP and public IPv4 address charges, load balancers, snapshots, data transfer between regions or availability zones, or Free Tier credits. It also starts the data transfer tiers at 0 GB, while AWS counts them on your whole account, and assumes each disk stays provisioned all month. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator for a full estimate.
